Quran is the last book of Allah Almighty, to guide mankind to the right path. Almighty Allah says: “This Book has no doubt in it – a guide for the God-fearing” [ Al- Baqarah:2]
The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: ” ” خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَه
“The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” {Sahih al-Bukhari 5027}
Reading Quran with correct pronunciation and giving the letters their due rights – known as Tajweed – is obligatory upon every Muslim. As Muslim parents, it is our core responsibility to teach our kids how to Learn Quran with Tajweed. We should be highly concerned about their Islamic education in the same manner as we are worried about their formal education.
But now a few questions arise here “what’s the right age to start teaching Quran to our kids and by what age they should complete it?” The next important question is: “How to teach our kids Quran Reading?” In the lines below, I will try to answer these questions in detail.
Let’s start with the first question, it is thought that 4 to 6 years is the best age for a child to start learning Quran but there is not any definite age to complete it.
Depending upon the abilities and interests of the kids, some of them can finish it in one or two years but some of them can take more time. The parents should keep in mind that every child has its own pace of learning, therefore don’t compare one kid with another, rather always appreciate them and let them learn freely. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be concerned about their learning process but keep it simple and interesting for them at the outlet.
There are many ways to teach kids, especially in our contemporary world.
Mother’s lap is the first school for a child. Parents, especially mothers should be very conscious about their kid’s Quranic education. Learning Quran with parents is the most simple and easiest way for kids to learn Quran. It is not only the easy way for kids but also has a great reward for the parents also.
But you should teach your kids to read the Holy Quran yourselves only if you can read the Quran with proper Tajweed, otherwise, it would be more difficult for kids to correct the mistakes later on.
Sending your kids to Mosque or any Islamic Center for learning Quran is another way to teach them reading or Memorizing Quran. It has been the most common way of learning the Quran in the past which is also applicable in this age. Sending kids to a mosque not only helps them in learning the Quran but also gives them a kind of exposure to the Islamic environment that helps them to learn many new things like how to pray, how to call Adhan for salah, and how to greet Muslims, etc.
However, in our busy and rushing life schedule, it isn’t so easy as it was, especially, where mosques are at some distance. Now the parents do not have much time to bring their kids to Mosque and wait for them until they complete their lessons.
Moreover, it takes many years to learn Quran in the mosque. At most places, there is only one teacher who has many students at a time and he can barely take a few minutes with each student.
You can also hire a private tutor for your kids to help them in reading or memorizing Quran at home. While hiring a private teacher, you should take care of following:
Nowadays there are many apps available for Android and iPhone that can help you and your kids in learning Quran. You should examine the app thoroughly before using it because there are many apps that have only a few lessons. While in some other apps, the voice is not according to the rules of Tajweed, even some of the apps have a lot of mistakes. Therefore before using an app, you should have to test it or get help from a good reader of the Holy Quran.
Nowadays, the best and easiest way of learning Quran is the Online Tutoring at home.
